Foundations of Humanities Team

Foundations of Humanities Team Overview

In the Humanities Program, two mandatory subjects, Foundations of Humanities (Modern Liberal Arts) and Foundations of Humanities (Humanities and Dialogue), are offered with the aim of developing students' communication skills and deepening their understanding of various fields, such as social sciences and natural sciences. These two subjects play a crucial role in helping students acquire the foundational knowledge and perspectives of the humanities.

Foundations of Humanities (Humanities and Dialogue)

In this subject, students from different fields of expertise and cultural backgrounds will connect online (through Zoom) to engage in interactive group work on themes such as Humanities and Society, Humanities and Digital Technology, Humanities and Ethics, and Humanities and Human Rights. Throughout the subject, participants will work to communicate collaboratively and creatively, while respecting and understanding their peers who may have different perspectives and ways of thinking. They will also explore together the ways in which humanities research and practices can address contemporary challenges.

Foundations of Humanities (Contemporary Liberal Arts)

Foundations of Humanities (Modern Liberal Arts) is conducted in an omnibus format, with lecturers from five majors and other graduate schools. The goal is to provide today's necessary education to humanities' students, while fostering a broad perspective and diverse knowledge. The content of each lecture is designed to lay the foundation for students to understand the entire knowledge system of the humanities beyond their own areas of specialization.

Through these subjects, the Foundations of Humanities Team aims to help students discover the diverse possibilities of the humanities and develop the ability to respond to complex social issues. In addition, by running classes online, we provide a flexible learning environment that transcends majors and campuses.
